Thank You For Smoking

This is a tiny, super-itsy bitsy clip, but it’s what makes me want to watch the movie over and over. In fact, I love the first ten minutes of “Thank You For Smoking”- probably more than the rest of whatever plot or characterization comes along afterwards. Come 4:19, when slomo is used as a device to imply BS’ing at its best, I just replay it over and over.

Wait until 2:22! Just wait for it! I promise you it is worth it. And the ride there ain’t half bad, either.

This makes me love the video’s director, Dougal Wilson. Not in an admiring kind of way. More of a “please-marry-me, you-clearly-are-a-meticulous-human-being” kind of way. Thanks for the great video, Dougal. (Really, I just like saying his name)

I remember the first time I watched this video. I was digging the fur coats and funny hats, loving the lighting and starting to feel one of the best feelings in the world: starting a video that you know is going to be kick ass.
At 2:55 I began to get goosebumps all over, my pupils dilating in what I now know to be a visual addiction which this website has futilely tried to quench. After all, whether in short or long bursts, slow motion always hooks you:
