Thanks to random people adding me on twitter, I came across the very awesome Mr. Meeble. With their self-released beats and DIY music videos, it’s hard to not be a fan.

Plus, I could watch this video all day.

There isn’t actually any slow motion in this video whatsoever. But they do interesting things with speed changes in general. And with furniture.

Blind-folded drummers, nose-bleeding lead singers, and guitars coming out of drawers? All such great ideas. I applaud Maximo Park’s ability to make the umndane interesting, as well as their ability to ram speed in a closet. Nice.

Never skimp out on a good editor, my friends.

I’m not even sure if I really like this video. The song is just so catchy, sounding like a sinister arcade from the depths of pop hell. The video’s style just feels inorganic- cutting at inopportune moments and using slow-motion willy-nilly instead of saving those shots for rises in the song.

The worst is when they cut to the long-shots of the “aliens” beating up the band. They’re so sparse and small from that far that it takes you out of the video. When in doubt, always use a close up, fool!

Sorry, Hadouken! Despite your slow motion, this is not well-received.

This is an oldie but a goodie. I mean Madonna, not the video.

I obviously love the parts at the end. Especially the portraiture of her in the pink leotard, hitting every Eisner Point of ocular pleasure…though her grinding on that dope boom box makes me a little nauseous.

The only thing I really hate about this video is how they transition from this amazing photography of Miss Prissy and Madonna on the dance floor to some shitty, real-time DDR sequence. What the fuck? As soon as I see Madonna’s arms go up in that unflattering green shirt, the spell is broken. That’s the problem with slow motion: It’s better than real life.

Slow Motion off a high dive…holy fucking shit.

If there is a heaven, I hope its swimming pools are lit like that. In slow motion, of course.

What this video lacks in plausible story, more than makes up for with its consistent tone. There are just so many great sequences in this video that, combined, they make for a very powerful visual piece. Avoiding cliches and performance shots of the band, Malajube’s “Luna” sets out to give the viewer more of an experience than over-stated, musical advertisement.

The awkward interaction between the main girl and the beggar, the beginning’s alarm clock groan, and OH YEAH, those sweet back-lit underwater shots, all contribute to the overall spooky environment created by Montreal-based director, David Valiquette.

Just when you didn’t think it could get any better, you realize that the girl had been drowning the whole time. Now that’s some crazy Jane Campion shit!

I’m also a big fan of synchronized swimming in any context. Yup, even that NuvaRing ad.

Thanks for not falling back on that “It was only a dream” BS that most Music Videos use to create artificial closure, David. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next!

Because falling into an empty pool is awesome.

Okay, yeah, Marc Webb is clever and it’s a good gimmick and blah blah blah, but who doesn’t love seeing a lead singer crowd surf? No matter how popped-out their punk band may be? Oh slow motion, thank you for giving the All American Rejects something to write home about.

Finally, someone using slow motion during a particularly EXTREME guitar solo at an appropriate time. Hallelujah!

This video makes me happy for so many reasons, and not just because it is the ONLY all-female band music video I have ever liked. Yup, I said it. Suck it, The Donnas.

This video rocks hard while managing to use things like bubbles and glitter in a completely kick-ass way. Shredding mad chords and making such intense facial expressions, The Cliks have Daughtry and Nickelback taking desperate notes even as I write this. Plus, those ramming speed shots of the drummer just totally kill.

Hopefully we’ll see more to come by its montreal-based directing collective, departement!

Another music video “directed” by Kanye West. All I can say is that this vid is a mixture of decadence and slow-motion breasts. Really. That’s all it is. Slo-mo tits.

Wow. I’m a mixture of disgust and fascination. Also, isn’t Drake from “Degrassi”? Oh how far they’ve fallen…

“Best I Ever Had” is definitely an example of slow motion used for purposes of evil. Take heed!

You know you’ve got a good thing goin’ when you can make humans look like veritable anime characters:

Would their adonis-like bods be possible without slow motion?

Would the drama, the purpose, the sheer tenacity of smashing a glorified light bulb be taken seriously without a higher frame rate?

No. No no and no.

And that, my friends, is why we should all love this video.

Wow, what an inexpensive, well done video! Ok, so maybe the shooting ratio seems a little on the light side when it comes to repeating the jumping footage, but then again, I think I have seen this video about 35 times now.
It basically just looks like the band had a good time at their local trampoline center… in a seriously kick ass way.

My favorite part is at 1:50, where they ram speed mid-jump. God bless ramming speed! That couldn’t have been easy to capture, what with all of the band members flying around in superhero capes. Where can I get one? Would wearing one make me a Helsinkid?
