I have no idea what happened in this video. All I know is that it is gorgeous and I love it:

I honestly have no idea if this is slow motion or not. I just know that somewhere between the suspended raindrops and the slow ascent into heaven that I love it, and that’s all that matters, folks.

You know you’ve got a good thing goin’ when you can make humans look like veritable anime characters:

Would their adonis-like bods be possible without slow motion?

Would the drama, the purpose, the sheer tenacity of smashing a glorified light bulb be taken seriously without a higher frame rate?

No. No no and no.

And that, my friends, is why we should all love this video.

This is a tiny, super-itsy bitsy clip, but it’s what makes me want to watch the movie over and over. In fact, I love the first ten minutes of “Thank You For Smoking”- probably more than the rest of whatever plot or characterization comes along afterwards. Come 4:19, when slomo is used as a device to imply BS’ing at its best, I just replay it over and over.

Oh shit, sorry guys! Didn’t mean to hoard all of the good videos to myself here! Not to mention a band that seems to be made up of incredibly attractive Australians:

Wow, what an inexpensive, well done video! Ok, so maybe the shooting ratio seems a little on the light side when it comes to repeating the jumping footage, but then again, I think I have seen this video about 35 times now.
It basically just looks like the band had a good time at their local trampoline center… in a seriously kick ass way.

My favorite part is at 1:50, where they ram speed mid-jump. God bless ramming speed! That couldn’t have been easy to capture, what with all of the band members flying around in superhero capes. Where can I get one? Would wearing one make me a Helsinkid?

How to describe the ambience of this video? Director Vincent Haycock’s summary is less than satisfying:

“Set in a run-down Los Angeles 99 cent-type store, this video is a stylish visual story about two young lovers who find a moment of transcendence amidst the decay and commerce.”

This description doesn’t do this gorgeous moment of insignificance justice. What about how the way they horse around is, like, the way we horse around? Or, um…how the lame flirtation between the two lovers is so raw? This style of directing is so fresh and relaxed that it makes me nostalgically uncomfortable.

Just writing the treatment for this story must have been a huge leap of faith. “So, like, they’re in this convenience store. And…um…they’re gooding around.” Thank god duo MSTRKRFT was wise enough to take a chance and film their opus in a Mexican CVS. Wait until 2:18 for the love-induced slow motion to kick in and seduce you all over again.

Wait until 2:22! Just wait for it! I promise you it is worth it. And the ride there ain’t half bad, either.

This makes me love the video’s director, Dougal Wilson. Not in an admiring kind of way. More of a “please-marry-me, you-clearly-are-a-meticulous-human-being” kind of way. Thanks for the great video, Dougal. (Really, I just like saying his name)

I remember the first time I watched this video. I was digging the fur coats and funny hats, loving the lighting and starting to feel one of the best feelings in the world: starting a video that you know is going to be kick ass.
At 2:55 I began to get goosebumps all over, my pupils dilating in what I now know to be a visual addiction which this website has futilely tried to quench. After all, whether in short or long bursts, slow motion always hooks you:

Aside from the amazing art direction, choreography, and straight-up kitsch that one can only embody by dangling from a horse that canters at full-speed, the editing of the middles’ slow motion sequence is breathtaking. Especially the quick cut-away to the singer just as she’s being spun like a top. If I had a shot of vodka right now, I’d drink it in “solidarity”. Guess I’ll just have to settle for more youtube.

Ok, so this film isn’t ENTIRELY in slow motion, but it’s just so good I can’t resist posting it:


I love the intro with the white rabbit on a bike. It kind of reminds me of the beginning of “I Love Sarah Jane”, only, you know, without as many zombies.

The best part? Setting Wonderland in what looks like a New Jersey suburb, complete with tea parties in the dining room and dance sequences in the den. It just goes to show how setting a surrealist tone lets the viewer accept anything; be it a rapper playing croquet, or filming a gangster-ass video at the equivalent of your parents’ house. Amazing.

This is a FAN video? Are you kidding me? According to creator Dan Norton, it was done using Trapcode Animation. Possibly the same technology used for Radiohead’s “House of Cards” video from their In Rainbows Animated Music Video Contest?

- Serious investment of time for no money, meaning the creator GENUINELY loves your band’s work
-Who doesn’t love lose light bulbs?
- It’s hard to make a video for a 5:03 that holds my attention. BRAVO.
